Who should publish?Classroom teachers PreK - 12Why should you consider publishing?
Supervisors of teachers/teacher educators
Teacher educators
Technical support specialists or techniciansThe world of educational technology dictates that some people will have experiences in a specific area at different times. Your experiences will precede many of your colleagues. By sharing your experiences and ideas, you can ease their frustrations and also bring recognition to yourself, your place of work, and your region of the country. What should I publish? The GaETC eJournal is divided into four departments: instruction, technical, professional development, and administration. Determine which set of people you feel would most likely enjoy reading what you have to say. We are most interested in personal experiences. The ideas need not be original, but your perspective should be unique. Short, practical ideas are always needed. The importance to the classroom experience should be evident from what you describe. Descriptions of practices which did not work will also be considered for publication if they include advice for changes/improvements. Articles that have already been published in another publication or are being considered for publication should not be submitted to this journal for consideration.
What are you looking for in an article?
Only the most general response is possible to this question. We are looking for something that would be interesting and informative to our readership. The article should pertain to the appropriate use of technology. In generaly, we look for something that answers the following questions:
- What you did
- Why you did it
- How you did it
- What you learned
- What does it mean
How large or small an article will be considered?
Publishing on the web does not carry the physical restrictions of paper publications. However, consider that a 2000 word article would be about three to four single-spaced typed pages. We always need quick, short ideas. Research articles or longer articles will be seriously considered too. What technical requirements do you have for submission? What should accompany the manuscript when it is submitted? We would greatly appreciate if you would submit your manuscript in a word processing file saved as a MS Word document (.doc) or in a rich text format (.rtf). Pictures should accompany your manuscript as you deem appropriate. (Note: The GaETC eJournal will reserve the right to use your images, edit them, or substitute images. If editing an image is anything other than aesthetic or technical, the author will be asked to approve the changes.) We prefer the image file format to be .gif or .jpg for web publishing.
If your article includes references to supplemental files you wish linked from your article (sound, movie, PowerPoint, etc.), simply indicate where you feel the most appropriate place for the link to be located. If there are special resources required to open the files (i.e. programs, plugins, application versions), please include an explanation of those resources. We prefer to link to objects on the GaETC eJournal web site rather than other web sites. Links to other web sites. are acceptable. We prefer those web site to be 'stable' as the articles will be archived for future reference purposes.
As the medium for dissemination of the eJournal is the web, we ask that you be cognizant of bandwidth issues and reduce the KB weight of all linked objects including images where possible.
There are at least five requirements of all articles:
- Title - Please suggest an 8-10 word title for your article.
- Description of the article - A one-paragraph description of your article which would be suitable for printing on a "table of contents page." The style should invite the reader to investigate the article.
- Contact the author - Indicate how the reader could contact you for a follow-up. This could be an email address, mailing address or both.
- Body of the article
If you choose to submit artwork or images (we hope you will), we need a statement indicating the publication of the images does not violate copyright rules. If the images contain faces of students that are individually identifiable, we also need a statement of permission from the parents/guardians of the student(s) in the images. Download a sample parent permission form. Images may be sent embedded in the word processing document or attached as separate files.
Supplemental files (movie clips, sound clips, presentations, images, etc.) should be sent as email attachments. It is the responsibility of the author to insure that the supplemental files are freely sharable through this electronic journal.
5. Category of Publication
The author should indicate which of the four article categories (instructional, professional development, technical, or administrative) would be the best fit for the intent of the article.
Peer Review - A peer review process is available for authors wishing to have their manuscripts reviewed. Indicate if you wish to request this feature. Note that articles that are accepted after a peer review will be identified for the readers. A peer review is not necessary for publication. It will be assumed that the author does NOT wish a peer review unless specifically requested. View the Guidelines for Peer Review.
Where do I submit my work and what happens next? All manuscripts and supporting information should be emailed to the webmaster for the eJournal. When your manuscript is received, it will be routed to the appropriate department head for review. The department head will contact you by email indicating the status of your article. You should address all questions about your article to that department head. If your article is recommended for use, it will be forwarded to the webmaster to be added to the other articles for publication. A recommended article will be published in one of the upcoming issues of the eJournal. What about copyrights?Your work is protected by copyright laws. The author will hold the copyright to the article. If you wish to have your article reprinted elsewhere, you should request the second publication indicate the original article was originally published in the GaETC eJournal and give our web address.
