What are the restrictions?Articles for publication should be original works of the author. We are aware of many, many web tutorials already published. We do not wish to receive a tutorial that has already been published somewhere else. We will be glad to reference an Internet site and give readers of our journal a link to your work if it is already published somewhere else.
What should I publish?
The GaETC eJournal is divided into four departments: instruction, technical, professional development, and administration. We are interested in developing tutorials for software titles from each of these areas. Popular titles are going to be the most useful. As we get requests for new titles, we will add those to the table on the Turorials page.
We would like something of a "Table of Contents" for the features of a program. This would let a reader find the particular feature causing trouble. We will publish your Table and provide links to as many features as you develop tutorials. Those features listed will motivate someone to develop a tutorial for the missing features.
What are you looking for in an article?
The article can contain simply words describing a "how to" or may include pictures if the description is complex. The article can contain a "Did you know..." or even a movie showing the steps. Movies with audio are acceptible, but you might consider short sections rather than showing multiple steps in a single movie. We would like to keep the web objects under 500 KB if possible. This is not a "hard" restriction. Note we do not host the eJournal on a streaming server.
As the section grows, we are more interested in NEW features rather than a "slightly" different way to accomplish something already explained in a tutorial. However, your process may be much better than the process explained in the eJournal. In that case we would be glad to publish your tutorial.
What technical requirements do you have for submission?
What should accompany the manuscript when it is submitted? We would greatly appreciate if you would submit your manuscript in a word processing file saved as a MS Word document (.doc) or in a rich text format (.rtf). Pictures should accompany your manuscript as you deem appropriate. Movies or Flash files may be sent as attachments. You may also use a PowerPoint presentation to show the steps in a process.
As the medium for dissemination of the eJournal is the web, we ask that you be cognizant of bandwidth issues and reduce the KB weight of all linked objects including images where possible.
There are at least three requirements of all articles:
- Software Feature - Please identify the name of the software title (and version)
- We would like to publish your email address so a reader might contact you if there is a question about the tutorial. Please provide a valid email address.
- Work address - we would like to recognize the school, school district, university, etc. where you are employed.
As we begin tutorials on a new application, we would like for you to also submit a candidate for a Table of Contents for features of the application. Once a table is published, others can add to this listing of features which are not covered with a suitable tutorial.
What about copyrights?
Your work is protected by copyright laws. The author will hold the copyright to the article. If you wish to have your article reprinted elsewhere, you should request the second publication indicate the original article was originally published in the GaETC eJournal and give our web address.
